
English and Japanese Dictionary
This page lists useful English and Japanese terms that can assist in distributing and searching for effects. For more general MMD vocabulary, please navigate to the bottom of the page.

English Terms
MMD
The abbreviated name of the 3D Engine MikuMikuDance. Both English and Japanese speaking artists will use this acronym to tag their effect downloads, or their artwork.
MME
The abbreviated name of the plugin MikuMikuEffect. Both English and Japanese speaking artists will use this acronym to tag their effect downloads, or their artwork.
MMM
The abbreviated name of the 3D Engine MikuMikuMoving. Both English and Japanese speaking artists will use this acronym to tag their effect downloads, or their artwork.
MikuMikuDance
The full name of the 3D Engine. Less used than MMD, but still used by both English and Japanese speaking artists.
MikuMikuEffect
The full name of the effect plugin. Less used than MME, but still used by both English and Japanese speaking artists.
MMEffect
Another variation of the effect plugin. Rarely used, but still used by both English and Japanese speaking artists.
MikuMikuMoving
An open source recreation of MikuMikuDance. Many MMD effects are compatible with MikuMikuMoving, but not all.
Effect Producer
An artist who produces original effects.
Effect Modder
An artist who mods existing effects to create something brand new. This may be done through texture or code editing.
Mod/Modification
Refers to an effect that has been modified using a base effect- the producer did not make the effect from scratch.
Base Effect
An original effect that has been modified to create an effect mod.
Distribution
Means that an asset is downloadable.
Redistribution
A term usually found in an artist's readme concerning if an asset can be put up for download by anyone other than the original creator.
DL
An abbreviation of 'download'. Artists may use 'DL' or 'download' to signify that an asset is downloadable.
Japanese Terms
Words
(These words may also have the prefix 'MMD' or 'MME' in front of it in practice).
エフェクト (efekuto)
The Japanese word for 'effect'.
改変 (kaihen)
The Japanese word for 'modification'. You can attach it to the end of any effect name to bring up modifications of that effect.
配布 (haifu)
The Japanese word for 'distribution'.
シェーダー (shēdā)
The Japanese word for 'shader'.
パーティクル (pātikuru)
The Japanese word for 'particle'.
ノーマルマップ (nōmarumappu)
The Japanese word for 'normalmap'.
お借りします (okarishimasu)
The Japanese verb for 'to borrow'. In the MMD context, it means 'I would like to borrow this', the closest English equivalent is 'I'd like to use it/ I've downloaded it'.
オリジナル (orijinaru)
The Japanese word for 'original'. It is used to tag original assets such as models, effects, motions and stages.
Phrases
MMEデータ配布あり (MME dēta haifu ari)
The Japanese phrase for 'MME data distribution'.
MME配布 (MME haifu)
The Japanese phrase for 'MME distribution', a shorter alternative to 'MMEデータ配布あり'.
HAGenerator使用シェーダー (HAGenerator shiyō shēdā)
The Japanese phrase for 'Shader created with HAGenerator'.
MMD講座 (MMD kōza)
The Japanese phrase for 'MMD Course', which is used to tag MMD tutorials.
MME講座 (MME kōza)
The Japanese phrase for 'MME Course', which is used to tag specifically MME tutorials.
MMD照明 (MMD Shōmei)
The Japanese phrase for 'Illumination'. Although this hashtag is used mainly for lighting models, many of these models use AutoLuminous.
エフェクトメイキング (Efekutomeikingu)
The Japanese phrase for 'effect making'. Artists will break down what effects they use, usually for their videos.
MMDツール配布あり (MMD tsūru haifu ari)
The Japanese phrase for 'MMD tool distribution available'. It is used for various MMD programs, but especially for MME ones such as MikuMikuShading and HAGenerator. May also be shortened down to ツール配布 (tsūru haifu)
